There are no two opinions I care less about in this world that those of Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush and Nancy O’Dell – a shame considering NBC’s decision to make this year’s fake Golden Globes even more disturbingly comical by allowing the oddly chosen emcees to offer their commentary after announcing each category. The Hollywood Foreign Press announcements themselves happened at a small press conference at the Beverly Hilton, but I certainly couldn’t find that on my TV. Instead, I was forced to endure an hour (that could have easily been half as long) of two supremely retarded tabloidists announcing winners on a five-second delay, filling each of the many empty moments with almost offensive shock at certain winners (“No Ellen Page!?”) and inane comparisons of Javier Bardem’s No Country For Old Men villain to… Darth Vader.

The night’s big TV winners were Extras and Mad Men, taking home Best Comedy and Drama respectively. Jeremy Piven nabbed Supporting Actor after three previously unsuccessful nominations (now, really?), Samantha Morton won Supporting Actress for that TV movie I’m pretty sure nobody saw, Glenn Close secured Actress in a Drama (no surprise here) and David Duchovny blew my mind by winning Actor in a Comedy. Billy wasn’t surprised though. After all, the Foreign Press loved The X-Files. Most bittersweet of all were the wins for Tina Fey (Actress in a Comedy) and Jon Hamm (Actor in a Drama). I bet their acceptance speeches would have been pretty flippin’ adorable.

I’m neither pleased nor upset with any of the winners or losers, because this year just didn’t seem real. I am, however, infuriated with the utter lack of reverence given to the honorees by NBC’s laughable telecast. I don’t imagine The First Cousin’s emceeing was aired anywhere else in the world (you don’t count, Canada), but if it was, my shame for our country’s image is officially off the charts.

For Billy and Nancy’s most quotable moments of absurdity, check out Maureen Ryan’s gracious transcription over at The Watcher.
